The New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism

The basic tenets of the Catholic faith according to the book, the New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism

We created this page to be a resource for anyone who wants to grow in the knowledge of the faith. We think homeschooling families will especially benefit from it.

The page has 119 audio recordings of excellent lectures on the Baltimore Catechism. We divided the recordings into 29 sets, with each set having 4 recordings. The lessons in the book are outlined as questions (e.g. Who made us? Who is God?) and there are 499 questions answered in the book.  Each recording covers 5 questions. You may schedule the lessons as you have time to go through them.

What is the Baltimore Catechism?

In the nineteenth century, repeated efforts had been made in the United States towards an arrangement by which a uniform textbook of Christian doctrine might be used by all Catholics. The Baltimore Catechism was the national Catholic catechism for children in the United States based on Robert Bellarmine’s 1614 Small Catechism. It was the first such catechism written for Catholics in North America and was the standard Catholic school text in the country from 1885 to the late 1960s.
